Acupuncture

I am an acupuncturist specialising in Five Element Acupuncture. I studied for my DipAc in Traditional Five Element Acupuncture at the International College of Acupuncture (ICA) accredited by The Acupuncture Society and the Complementary Medicine Association. I believe in a holistic approach to wellbeing, and view our physical, mental and emotional challenges as being interlinked, and connected to an energetic imbalance at a deep level. Through acupuncture I aim to help restore this balance to stimulate healing and growth.

What is Five Element Acupuncture?

Five Element Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that uses the concept of five natural elements - wood, fire, earth, metal and water - to diagnose and treat imbalances in your body, mind, and spirit. These elements represent the fluctuating seasons of the natural world, and Chinese wisdom believes that these form the building blocks of our inner world too. According to Five Element Acupuncture, we all have a guardian element that represents the guiding energy within us, driving aspects of our character, behaviour and life experience. During our lives this element loses its balance, leading to physical, mental and emotional challenges. I work with you to diagnose your guardian element and use fine needling to stimulate meridians that flow within your body. This harmonises powerful energetic pathways,
enhancing your wellness at source, and supporting improvements to your quality of life.

What is treatment like?

An initial consultation will allow us to get to know each other and discuss your history, so that we can explore your unique underlying patterns of disharmony (we all have them!) and devise a personalised treatment plan. This consultation will also include your first treatment. Treatments include gently inserting fine needles to stimulate a combination of acupuncture points. We will also use moxibustion, which is the burning of mugwort (a small, spongy herb) over your acupuncture points to enhance the effects of treatment. Acupuncture points most commonly used are on the forearms, lower legs, abdomen and back, so loose clothing is helpful. Acupuncture has a cumulative effect, so the benefits of treatment tend to build up over time with repeated sessions, though many feel positive effects after just one treatment. As treatments progress, we will monitor your state of health and wellbeing, fine-tune treatment as
necessary, and continue to work together to maintain your mind, body and spirit balance.
